FOUR WAIT UNREMEMBERED

Book and excerpt in English

The Seven Registers continues seconds after Book One. Black Spire receives an order to begin the erasure, while seven separate paths confront memory, obedience and the cost of remaining human. Three remember. Four wait.

Inside the book

The story begins while Black Spire’s exits remain open. Preparing for a visible enemy is no longer enough when the threat can erase what you know about it.

Book Two continues the paths established in SIX STILL DREAM, expanding the conflict around memory, witness and obedience. What remains of a person when names and relationships themselves can be erased?

Who is it for?

For readers continuing from Book One. Read SIX STILL DREAM first.

Chapter One · Begin the Erasure

This Book Two excerpt may reveal events from Book One.

The erasure began while every exit remained open.

Nothing struck Black Spire. No violet blade crossed the shields. No aircraft fell from the storm, and no figure appeared in the corridors where thirty Hunters waited behind manual weapons.

The first thing the fortress lost was an enemy.

Mara stood at the central command table while the last confirmation reports arrived through isolated channels.

“East balcony open.”

“Lower vehicle gate open.”

“Emergency descent shaft open.”

“Aircraft launch spine open.”

A pause.

Then the final team answered from beneath the garrison.

“Substructure evacuation tunnel open.”

Five routes. Five human confirmations. The blue marks on Mara’s map remained where they had been before the violet ring appeared behind the clouds. Nothing had closed. Nothing had crossed.

Sol Renik stood beside her with rain still darkening the shoulders of his repaired armor. The old scar along his jaw held a thin line of water from the balcony. He had refused to wipe it away. Around them, technicians operated stripped consoles without predictive assistance. Runners waited at the stairwells. Human crews held the turrets in manual control.

The fortress was ready for a war it could recognize.

Mara opened the threat file.

SERAKH VEIL appeared above the command table. A dark mask. Layered black armor. A violet core beneath the chest. The image had been recovered from a system that should never have contained it.

She assigned the file to all five exits.

The name vanished.

The image remained for half a second longer. Then the masked face broke into pale blocks and disappeared.

Mara entered the name again.

The command table rejected it.

IDENTITY NOT FOUND.

She tried White Protocol.

IDENTITY NOT FOUND.

The Violet.

IDENTITY NOT FOUND.

Sol watched the empty threat field.

“Archive damage?”

“The files were local.”

“Everything is local tonight.”

“They were isolated before the sky changed.”

Mara reopened the recovered mission package. The footage from Aetherline Seven remained. Rain hung motionless around an impossible Gate. Weapons lay in a street without owners. Blood moved through water without biological matches. Seven figures had occupied the file when Black Spire first received it.

Now the recording contained only weather.

The camera moved as though following people who were no longer visible. Rain bent around absent shoulders. A rifle rose from the ground, fired by no registered hand, then broke against empty air.

Sol leaned closer.

“Turn it off.”

Mara closed the file.

“You saw them.”

“I saw movement.”

“Before.”

His eyes remained on the blank surface.

“Yes.”

“How many?”

Sol looked at her.
